The school is renaming and will dedicate the Dr. John Ingold Athletic Complex and the Dr. J. Harold “Sarge” Yoder Baseball Field next month. The two coached Maple Leaf athletic teams for a combined 120 seasons.
Ingold graduated from Goshen in 1959. He served as a professor of physical education at the school from 1964-1998. Ingold also coached men’s sports including cross country, soccer, tennis, golf and track and field.
Yoder is a 1950 Goshen alumnus. He served as professor of physical education from 1955 to 1987. Yoder coached men’s basketball, baseball, soccer and tennis.
The Maple Leafs Athletic Club will recognize Yoder and Ingold with a gate, between the baseball and softball fields at the entrance to the Goshen College Soccer Complex. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Saturday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m.
“As we look to a bright future, it is important that we also honor the past. There are so many lessons that our student-athletes and staff can learn from the servant leader example of Dr. Ingold and Dr. Yoder. We are hopeful that having their names front and center on these facilities will be a constant reminder of their examples and spur us all on as we follow in the path they forged,” Goshen College President James Brenneman said.
