After a short holiday break, legislators will return to work Tuesday at the Statehouse. Several key bills are slated to face committee scrutiny, including the elimination of the construction common wage, authorization to market industrial hemp and swapping the ISTEP exam for the BEST exam. The last day for third reading of all bills is April 15. The common wage in the construction industry has been on the books since the 1930s. It will go before the Senate Tax & Fiscal Policy Committee. You can read HB 1019 by clicking here.

The industrial hemp measure would set up a work group to examine the fiber, seeds, resin, oil or extracts for potential manufacture or use once these practices receive federal approval. You can read HB 1181 by clicking here. It is slated for discussion in the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Senate Bill 566, which is set to go before the House Committee on Education, would replace ISTEPs with the BEST testing program after June 30, 2016. You can read SB 566 by clicking here.
