Two measures designed to remove what some legislators call a hurdle for economic development are still being hotly debated in the General Assembly.

House Bill 1001 and Senate Bill 1 both concern the business personal property tax, which Governor Pence has been pushing to cut. Several Mayors have suggested removing the tax would hurt local governments that would have a difficult time making up that revenue.

Legislation dealing with a state-funded pre-kindergarten program includes language to create a summer study committee to further examine the issue.
