Gary city leaders are planning an economic development announcement this week they say involves around 300 jobs. Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and Gary Economic Development Corp. officials are scheduled to take part in Thursday's event. The announcement is set for Thursday at 12:00 p.m. (11:00 a.m. Central).

Shortly afterward, the city will announce a partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation to launch U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx's Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Initiative.

As part of that effort, several federal agencies will lead community assessments in areas where people walk or bike. City leaders hope the assessments will spark discussions and relationships that lead to safer pedestrian and bicycle networks.
