An Anderson city commission has voted to commit more than $11 million to a project to turn a former Delco Remy operation into a Purdue University College of Technology location. Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report operations at the proposed new facility could begin in 2016. The city began eminent domain proceedings last month to obtain the property from Hy-Tech Machining Systems.

The site includes the former Delco Remy “Plant 18” operation. Plans call for the building to be demolished to make way for the structure containing the new center, thousands of square feet of manufacturing space and the Flagship Maker Space.

It still needs further approval from the Community Revitalization Enhancement District Commission and the city council before a 15-year bond can be set up.

The full cost of the project has not yet been determined.
