The Fort Wayne-based AWS Foundation has awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to northeast Indiana nonprofits. The funding supports organizations that benefit people with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Fort Wayne, Ind. — Recognizing the growth and success of the University of Saint Francis' Jesters Program, the AWS Foundation has awarded the University a grant totaling $250,000 payable over five years. “The Jesters is a one-of-a-kind creative arts program that develops and fosters self-expression through the visual and performing arts. Our investment in Jesters has been a catalyst for growth and capacity-building,” said Lynne Gilmore, AWS Foundation Executive Director, “and this new level of support will help them respond to the increasing numbers of individuals and families seeking a multi-faceted creative arts experience.”

Other grants made to organizations in northeast Indiana that benefit individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities include:

AWS Industrial Operations: $50,000 for the “Learn and Earn Program” for Fort Wayne Community Schools and East Allen County Schools special education high school students

Bi-County Services: $10,000 toward the cost to pave the parking lot at Whicker Field for enhanced accessibility

Citilink: $25,000 for the Access demand response transportation

Columbia City Parks and Recreation: $25,000 for accessible playground equipment

Congregation Achduth Vesholom: $16,000 for wheelchair accessibility improvements

Community Transportation Network (CTN): $25,000 for transportation services

League for the Blind & Disabled: $20,000 for the summer youth program for low-income participants

Riley Children's Foundation: $10,000 for campers with intellectual disabilities to attend Camp Riley

Rehabilitation and Industrial Services Enterprises (R.I.S.E.): $13,700 matching INDOT funds for a transport van and sedan

RSVP Volunteer Center: $25,000 for I Can Volunteer program

Town of Winona Lake: $25,000 for accessible playground equipment
