Five fire departments throughout the state have received a share of more than $1.2 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The support is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

The recipients from Indiana in the fourth round of distributions are:

  • Bargersville Community Fire Protection District – $41,129 for equipment
  • Connersville Fire Department – $74,286 for facilities
  • Gary Fire Department – $758,044 for personal protective equipment
  • Logansport Fire Department – $329,533 for personal protective equipment
  • Mooresville Fire Department – $57,467 for personal protective equipment

Congressman Pete Visclosky (D-1) said "I congratulate Mayor (Karen) Freeman-Wilson and Fire Chief (Paul) Bradley for successfully obtaining this grant award.  Our brave firefighters are on duty saving lives 24 hours of every day. I am pleased that this funding will further enhance their abilities to protect themselves and keep our communities safe."
