Federal Funds Boost Opioid, Heroin Fight in Indiana

Friday, March 11, 2016 05:31 PM EDT
Federal Funds Boost Opioid, Heroin Fight in Indiana Valley Professionals Community Health Center Inc. in Vermillion County is one of eight Indiana recipients.

Four health centers in Indiana will share more than $1.5 million in federal funding to fight heroin and prescription opioid abuse. The support from the Health Resources and Services Administration is part of a $94 million national program.

The funding will boost delivery and services for treatment of opioid use among underserved populations. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says more patients will be able to be screened for substance use disorders and be connected with treatment. It will also bolster training and educational resources for health professionals.

The Indiana recipients are:

Meridian Services Corp. in Muncie ($325,000)

The Health and Hospital Corp. of Marion County in Indianapolis ($379,167)

Valley Professionals Community Health Center Inc. in Clinton ($406,250)
