A Mass of a Christian Burial is set today for a former chief executive officer of Evansville-based Shoe Carnival Inc. (Nasdaq: SCVL). Mark Lemond was originally hired as chief financial officer and spent 25 years with the company. He was 59. April 4, 2014

NEWBURGH, Ind. – Mark Lemond, 59 of Newburgh passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at his home.

Mark was born January 22, 1955 in Jasper, Indiana. He was a graduate of Mater Dei High School and completed his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Evansville. After attaining his CPA he was a partner in the firm Kruse, Dicus and Associates for 10 years. He began his career with Shoe Carnival, Inc. as Chief Financial Officer and retired after 25 years as the company's President and Chief Executive Officer. In 2001, Mark was awarded the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year in Retail. In 2006 he was recognized as Business Person of the Year by the Evansville Chamber of Commerce. In 2008 Mark was awarded Business Leader of the Year by the University of Evansville. With UE being close to his heart, Mark served on the Board of Trustees. Mark also served on many local boards most notably St. Mary's and Old National and was known for his generosity to many local and national causes. Mark was also known for his love of family, boating and golfing.

He is survived by son, Morgan Lemond of Evansville, parents, James and Evelyn (Finke) Lemond, of Evansville, sisters, Kathy Miller (Rusty) of Evansville and Chery Ambrose (Kelly) of Berea, KY, brother, John Lemond (Lori) of Evansville, former wife of 21 years, Sharon Lemond of Evansville, step-son, Jared Roth of Evansville and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 11 am, Monday, April 7, 2014 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 918 W. Mill Rd., Evansville with Father Paul Ferguson officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Mausoleum.

Visitation will held from 2 pm until 7 pm, Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home – East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville and again from 10 am until time of Mass at 11 am, Monday at the church.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Youth First, 111 SE 3rd St., STE 405, Evansville, IN 47708 or U of E Scholarship Fund, 1800 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47722.
