News Release

RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College baseball is in the middle of the one of the best seasons in school history. A big part of this success is the building of the brand new Randal R. Sadler Stadium, and this Saturday, April 18 it will receive an official dedication.

“The Sadler Stadium dedication is the culmination of magnificent vision, community effort and hard work,” said Mike Bergum, Earlham College Director of Athletics. “The stadium is a source of pride for everyone involved. This is a day of celebration and a way to show our thanks to Randy and Melissa Sadler and everyone who has made this vision possible.”

The Quakers are scheduled to play the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 1 p.m.

Prior to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest, Sadler and other dignitaries will be recognized during the ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Community members are invited to attend the celebration.

“We are profoundly grateful to Randy for stepping forward as he did,” said Earlham President David Dawson of Sadler's pledge. “He's given Earlham a remarkable venue for baseball that will be enjoyed by many, many Quaker teams to come.”

The stadium features a turf playing surface, and playing dimensions of 310 feet down the left field line, 390 feet to straightaway center field and 325 feet to right field. On the first base side there is a hitting area that is 80 feet by 45 feet, which includes two cages and drill area. There also are bullpens next to each dugout. A unique feature is the Maroon Monster, which is a 30-foot high fence that extends 50 feet from the left field line. On the outside of the stadium, there is a viewing mound down the right field line. There also are chair back seats, bleachers and picnic patio seating area.

The Avis Stewart Clubhouse, which was completed prior to this season, features Earlham's baseball locker room, team room, concessions, media center, coach's offices, umpire room, training room and rest room.

As a student-athlete at Earlham, Sadler played baseball for the Quakers, helping Earlham to one of its finest seasons in 1971, later recognized in EC's Athletics Hall of Fame. His million-dollar pledge made possible Earlham's newest on-campus baseball facility.

After graduating from Earlham in 1973, Sadler established a tax practice, taught at Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and worked in management positions for Kroger and General Electric. Sadler went on to earn a Master of Arts in Business Administration from Xavier University.

Sadler is the president and chief operating officer of PROWARE, an Ohio-based corporation focused on providing information technology to medium and large courts. He is the owner of a par-three golf course, is a financial adviser and stockbroker, and is co-developer of a water purification system.

Randy and his wife, Melissa, are the parents of Bret, Cameron, and Miranda and the grandparents to Josie, Ollie, Adrian, and Ava. It is through their extraordinary generosity and support that Earlham was able to build this stadium.

As always, fans can watch all home games on Radio Troy.
