Drone Racers Converging in Muncie

The Academy of Model Aeronautics, headquartered in Muncie, will Wednesday host a high-tech racing competition. The organization bills the 2017 MultiGP International Open Drone Racing Festival as "paradise" for camera-piloted, remote-controlled drones. Organizers say more than 60 first-person view drone pilots, many with big followings on YouTube, will race in events on eight separate tracks at the 1,200-acre Delaware County property.
The pilots of the model drones use goggles or monitors that receive flight video from the planes. Some race events throughout the four days will be for individuals, while others will feature team racing. Top pilots on the final day will compete for thousands of dollars in prizes.
