Indiana Representative Ed DeLaney (D-86) is ending his bid to be the next mayor of Indianapolis. DeLaney says he will focus on his role in the House Ways and Means Committee.

Indianapolis, Ind. — State Rep. Edward DeLaney (D-Indianapolis) today issued the following statement about his future plans:

“Today, I am ending my efforts to become the next Mayor of Indianapolis.

“I do this with reluctance because of my deep commitment to our city.

“However, thanks to House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath (D-Michigan City), I have been given the chance to serve on the Indiana House Ways and Means Committee. This is an enormous responsibility that provides a great opportunity to shape legislation that can help our city.

“More specifically, I will be working on a proposal to provide revenue sharing from our state’s overly large surplus to our local units of government. These funds can be used to strengthen law enforcement, build roads, and provide pre-school opportunities for all children.

“I am confident that these proposals will serve to generate a much-needed discussion about the future of our city. As we near the 50th anniversary of Unigov, it is time that we take a hard look at where we are going. We must move from stagnation to progress. I look forward to taking an active role in that discussion from my position on Ways and Means.

“Again, I want to thank Leader Pelath for this opportunity. I also want to thank those who have supported my efforts these past few months. I will continue to work on your behalf.”

Indiana House Leader Scott Pelath from Michigan City has issued the following statement:

“I am delighted that Ed DeLaney will continue to serve in the Indiana House of Representatives into the future. In his time here, Ed has become one of those people I rely upon to articulate House Democratic positions on such issues as education reform, job creation, and affordable health care. I look forward to his continued contributions as a spokesman for the people of Indiana through his service in the House.”
