Though no new date has been set, Ella Johnson-Watson says weather and other factors will push it “just a bit” later than the originally-scheduled January 23rd event. Missouri-based HCW is the project's developer and will pump about $40 million into building the Double Tree Hilton.
The city and a group of private investors that includes Evansville-based Old National Bancorp (NYSE: ONB) will pick up another portion.
The project received final city approval in October. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has declared Evansville “back in the convention business,” supporting an Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau campaign that calls the city a “convention destination.”
