News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Westfield Mayor Andy Cook and Mark Richards, director of Community Development Services and City Engineer for the City of Greenwood, have been appointed to the board of directors of the Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA). Both were appointed to the CIRTA board by Governor Mike Pence.
Plainfield Town Council member Bill Kirchoff, also an appointee of the governor, is retiring from the CIRTA board after ten years of service.
“We are so appreciative of Bill’s leadership over a decade,” said Christine Altman, CIRTA board chair and a Hamilton County commissioner. “Bill not only helped to develop the organization but also guide its evolution, which included getting the transit bill signed into law during the 2014 session. It will allow Central Indiana voters to decide if an improved mass transit system is worth a modest tax increase.”
The Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA) was created by state statute in 2004 to expand and improve mass transit in the region. It is governed by a 17-member board appointed by the governor, elected officials who represent 10 counties in the region, as well as municipalities, the Indianapolis Regional Transportation Council and the labor organization for IndyGo employees. CIRTA has 4 focus areas: enhancing existing mobility services, facilitating ridesharing, planning and education.
