Christian Theological Seminary Names Research Professor

INDIANAPOLIS– Christian Theological Seminary has named Robert Saler to serve as Research Professor of Lutheran Studies. Saler will continue to serve as Executive Director of the Center for Pastoral Excellence and the Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Programs.
Prior to joining the Christian Theological Seminary staff in 2012, Saler was a Visiting Lecturer in systematic theology at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and served as pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church in Gary, IN.
Saler is an ordained minister of Word and sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The author of numerous scholarly articles in areas such as hermeneutics, early modern theology, ecological theology and ecclesiology, Saler has also contributed articles and reviews to The Christian Century, Currents in Theology and Mission, The Cresset, American Journal of Theology and Philosophy, Expositions, and The Lutheran Forum. Most recently, he authored Between Magisterium and Marketplace: A Constructive Account of Theology and the Church (Fortress, 201). He is a member of the American Theological Society and the American Academy of Religion.
He received a BA summa cum laude from Valparaiso University, an MA in theology from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago, and the M.Div., Th.M. and Ph.D. (with distinction) from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.
