Two colleges in the state are growing their varsity athletic programs. Butler University is adding women’s lacrosse and beginning next year, Ancilla College will have men’s and women’s tennis teams.

Butler is searching for its first varsity women’s lacrosse coach. The sport will be the 20th at the varsity level for the school. Director of Athletics Barry Collier says the new sport will support the university on and off the field. "The addition of women’s lacrosse as a varsity sport provides Butler with the opportunity to deepen relationships in portions of the country that continue to be very important to the University, especially Indiana, the Midwest and the East Coast. Women’s lacrosse adds to our wide offering of varsity sports, which provide exceptional student-athlete experiences and are a source of pride and unity for Butler undergraduates, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends."

Butler lacrosse will compete in the Big East.

Marshall County-based Ancilla has hired Jessica Kutch as the head coach for the men’s and women’s programs. Kutch has played at the high school, college and United States Tennis Association levels and previously served as an assistant coach for The Culver Academies.

Kutch said "I am extremely thrilled and honored to be starting this program at Ancilla College. It is my mission to take these young men and women and, with the perfect setting and the right leadership, create an opportunity for each of them to go above and beyond all academic, athletic, and personal expectations."

In August, the school also announced a new men’s lacrosse program, which is being led by Head Coach Brian Welch. The Chargers lacrosse team will also take the field next season.
