$2.5B IU Campaign to Fund ‘What You Can’t See’

$2.5B IU Campaign to Fund ‘What You Can’t See’

The chief executive officer of the Indiana University Foundation says the money raised from its ambitious Bicentennial Campaign will be focused on preparing students for a "world we can’t even imagine." Dan Smith says the school is now in the public phase of the effort and is just shy of the half-way mark of $2.5 billion targeted by 2020. More than 200,000 donors have contributed so far.

He says, in order for the university to reach the goal, it is going to take additional "compelling partnerships" to emerge. Smith says much of the funding is targeted at scholarships and other forms of affordability, making the university more globally inclusive and expanding research and faculty support initiatives by endowing things like long-term deanships.

The public campaign details come as IU has announced a $20 million gift from David Jacobs to support programs at the Jacobs School of Music that are in-line with the overall goals of the system-wide campaign. The family is a well-known contributor to IU. In 2005, his mother, Barbara gave more than $40 million in the name of David’s father, David H. Jacobs.
