$20M IU Project Moving Forward

Groundbreaking will likely take place this summer

Indiana University’s board of trustees has approved designs for a more than $20 million expansion to the School of Dentistry in Indianapolis. The school says the addition will provide state-of-the-art clinics for the school, which has been using facilities built as early as the 1930s.

The three-story addition to the building on the IUPUI campus will feature more than 120 patient treatment rooms and upgraded patient registration and waiting areas. There will also be suspended glass walkways to connect the upper floors to existing buildings. Groundbreaking will likely take place this summer, with construction taking approximately two years.

The school says the project has already attracted more than $4 million in funding from alumni and other supporters. The rest of the project will be paid for through capital funds, auxiliary services revenue and gifts to the ongoing Indiana University Bicentennial Campaign.

Ratio Architects and SmithGroupJJR developed the designs. The firms have also partnered on recent projects for the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute and the IUPUI Campus Center.
