Installing the Inside INdiana Business News Ticker

After a brief registration process, you will automatically be taken to another web page that will contain your registration code and a link to download the INdiana Business News Ticker. After installing and launching the program for the first time, you will be asked to input this registration code. You will also be e-mailed your registration code for your records. If you missed the link on the confirmation page to download the news ticker, you can click here to download it.

You must have .NET 1.1 Framework installed. The installer will automatically check your computer for this software. If you do not have it, you will be prompted to visit Microsoft's website to download the software for free. After downloading and installing the .NET Framework, return to the Inside INdiana Business News Ticker installation and follow the instructions.

When prompted to download newstickerinstallation.exe, you'll click on the "Save" button. Then choose the location where you'd like to place the file (on your Desktop is easiest). Double-click the Inside INdiana Business (i) icon located on your desktop to run the Installer and continue to follow the instructions.

Before beginning installation, please make sure you have administrative rights to install programs on your computer. If not, contact your administrator.

How It Works

When booting up your computer, the News Ticker will automatically run. The News Ticker will access our website to get the latest headline news and display them on your desktop. Simply clicking on any headline will open your default browser and take you directly to the news page on InsideIndianaBusiness.com.

Always located at the bottom of your computer screen, you can layer other applications over the News Ticker or resize the other windows in order to keep the News Ticker visible at all times.

When new stories are posted on our website, the Inside INdiana Business (i) icon will flash in your status bar (bottom right, next to the computer's clock) to alert you of the posting. Click on that icon to see the most current news headlines. You can click directly on the headline to take you to our website to read the article.

1. What is required to run the Inside INdiana Business News Ticker?

You need a computer with an Internet connection and the Microsoft .NET 1.1 Framework installed. The Inside INdiana Business News Ticker installer will check your computer to see if you have the program before installation of the Ticker. If your computer does not have the software, you will receive a prompt to download it. Clicking "OK" will take you directly to Microsoft's website to download.

2. When I try to install the Inside INdiana Business News Ticker, I don't seem to have the administrative rights on my computer to complete the installation. Why is this?

In some networked environments, your network administrator will not allow you to modify your system software, add third-party plug-ins to your browser and other things that may increase the functionality (but potentially decrease the safety) of your computer. 4. When I click on a headline, the story appears in a window I already had launched. How can I make it come up in its own window?

Your individual setting in your browser controls this. If you are using Internet Explorer, open your browser, chose Tools > Internet Options > Click on the "Advanced" tab > Under "Browsing", make sure the "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" is NOT checked.

5. I have my registration number now. Where do I go to download the News Ticker installation program?

You should have been taken to another web page that confirmed your registration number and provided a download link. If you missed it, you can click here to download the News Ticker again.
