(NYSE: CAG) has unveiled new sustainable packaging for its products developed in partnership with Evansville-based Berry Global Group Inc. (NYSE: BERY). The companies say the new design will reduce the packaging’s carbon footprint by 98 metric tons annually.
The packaging will initially be used for Conagra’s Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa line. It was created by Berry Global’s Blue Clover Studios and features recyclable plastic in a cube-shaped container that Berry says reduces the carbon footprint by 15% because it requires less energy to manufacture and transport the material.
Katya Hantel, senior director of sustainable development at Conagra, says the company plans to adopt the new cube design over the next several years. She says the effort supports the company’s mission to make 100% of its plastic packaging renewable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.
Blue Clover Studios is Berry Global’s in-house industrial design studio that focuses on bringing turning ideas into actual products in a short period of time.
