Connelly, who has been a member of the LaGrange American Legion Post for 49 years, was elected during the organization’s 101st annual Indiana American Legion Convention in Indianapolis.
Allen has served in nearly every capacity at the post, including as post commander in 1999-2000. He is currently serving as Post Service Officer, along with Hoosier Boys State and flag education Chairman. Allen has also served in several capacities at the district level as well, including as Commander and Vice Commander in 2005-2006. Allen gained his American Legion eligibility through his active duty service from January 2, 1964, to Dec 11, 1965, in the U.S. Army.
Allen’s “Commander’s Project” is the Indiana American Legion Legacy foundation, which was recently incorporated. The move will allow them to collect funds through donations, but also will allow them to distribute grants to various organizations.
“This foundation is an innovative and forward-looking approach to the challenges facing the department. As our membership numbers decline, so does the revenue to fund vital American Legion programs,” said Connelly.
