Purdue University Northwest’s College of Business will launch a new banking concentration for undergraduate students majoring in finance beginning in the fall. The concentration is being offered through a partnership with the Indiana Bankers Association, which the school calls the first collaboration of its kind in Indiana.

The IBA made a $135,000 donation which supports a three-year program beginning in the fall. PNW leaders say the concentration will be self-sustaining at the end of the three years. College of Business Dean Jane Mutchler says over 100 students are already majoring in Finance.

“Of the 23 institutions in Indiana that offer a bachelor’s degree in finance, none provide students with the option to study banking through a major concentration or a minor. Purdue Northwest will be the first,” said Mutchler.

Curriculum includes courses in risk management, bank management, financial reporting and compliance and an internship requirement. Employment projections for banking professionals in Indiana are forecast to grow by over 10 percent by 2026.
