Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the Merrillville Redevelopment Commission has approved the creation of a tax increment financing district for the property near I-65 and U.S. 30.
The property formerly housed a Radisson Hotel, the Star Plaza Theatre and the Twin Towers office buildings. In October, Merrillville-based White Lodging Services Inc. announced plans for a more than $350 million mixed-use development for the site, which would include hotels, an events center, and office, residential and restaurant space.
The proposal, known as The Farm at Crossroad Commons, has not yet been presented to the town’s Plan Commission, according to the publication. A timeline for that presentation is not yet known.
The Times also reports the town continues to support plans for a $7 million skilled nursing facility near the area of the White Lodging property. The Plan Commission and the Merrillville Town Council have approved the project from Long Term Care Investments VI. Developers now await approval from the state.
The project will cover 10 acres on 93rd Avenue east of Broadway and includes five residential buildings, each of which would have 12 beds, as well as a dining area, beauty salon and spa. A community center would also serve the entire campus.
If the state approves the project, groundbreaking could take place in the summer. You can read more from The Times of Northwest Indiana by clicking here.
