The winning design will be featured on branding, posters, memorabilia and artwork for the city’s 200th anniversary.
Bicentennial celebrations and events will begin in June of 2020 and continue through the summer of 2021.
Work should be submitted based on the themes of the bicentennial: history, civic pride, innovation and legacy. Submissions for the contest are open to local artists of all ages and disciplines throughout Marion County.
Prizes for the contest include $5,000 to the overall winner, $1,000 to the winner of the youth category and $500 to the people’s choice winner. An online portal will launch this summer for artists to submit their work. The deadline for entries is September 1, with winners announced in early January 2020.
“Indianapolis has a history of promoting inclusive design; the flag of Indianapolis in its current form was created by a student at the Herron School of Art. The Bicentennial Commission hopes to build upon this tradition by calling on artists of all walks of life, in all corners of the city to submit their designs and become an integral part of celebration programming,” said Steve Campbell, co-chair of the Indianapolis Bicentennial Commission, in a news release.
