The company says the facility in South Bend will power its last-mile delivery capabilities in the region with the help of small businesses and independent contractors.
The company did not say how much it is investing in the new location. The South Bend Tribune cites documents filed with the state which say the delivery center will be located in the Great Lakes Capital Distribution Park and create more than 100 jobs.
Amazon says it expects the facility to open later this year. The company currently has delivery centers in Gary and Indianapolis, in addition to seven fulfillment and sortation centers throughout the state.
