Indians Set For Home Opener
The Indianapolis Indians kicked off the 2019 season last week, but the team will begin its home season Thursday at Victory Field. The Indians finished the 2018 season second in total attendance and Randy Lewandowski, president and general manager of the team, says the consistent high attendance is a point of pride. In an interview on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, Lewandowski said it’s all about the ballpark experience.
"That’s really what we’ve built it around is that experience to create great memories, great experiences for our fans of all kinds," said Lewandowski. "Whether it’s date night, whether it’s group business, whether it’s corporate business, whatever it might be, we think there’s a little bit of everything for everybody. We’ve built it around the Victory Field experience. We take great pride in the facility and it’s something that we’re going to continue to strive to do."
The Indians averaged nearly 9,000 fans per game last year and Lewandowski says they expect to consistently attract more than 10,000 fans per game around the beginning of summer.
The team is entering its 15th season as an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Lewandowski says expectations are high for this year’s team, saying he’s heard officials from the Pirates organization describe the team as the most prospect talent-laden team they’ve brought to Indianapolis.
