Carvana Aims to Boost Greenfield Economy
The associate director of communications for Arizona-based Carvana Co. (NYSE: CVNA) says the company’s new vehicle inspection facility in Greenfield will be a boon for the local economy. The online auto retailer opened the 130,000-square-foot facility Tuesday. Amy O’Hara says they already have about 100 employees and when the facility comes to full capacity, it will employ some 500 workers.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman, O’Hara discussed the benefits of the facility.
"The inspection center we have here in Greenfield is a great way to create jobs for the economy here locally, as well as provide a great service to our customers in the Midwest and our greater logistics network," said O’Hara. "We are one of the fastest-growing auto retailers in the U.S. and we’re delivering more and more cars every day and having an inspection center like this up and running really helps us do that."
The facility is the company’s fifth vehicle inspection center in the U.S., joining others in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Dallas and Atlanta. The company will use it to inspect and recondition any vehicle that comes through and photograph them before they are posted to the Carvana website. O’Hara said Indiana was an easy choice for the latest facility.
"We’ve experienced a lot of growth in Indiana," said O’Hara. "We have a car vending machine here in Indianapolis. We provide as-soon-as-next-day delivery to Fort Wayne and today, we’re also excited to launch our Elkhart and South Bend markets."
Carvana opened its car vending machine on the northeast side of Indianapolis in December.
