Services Set For Art Angotti
A Hoosier businessman who led an effort to bring a Major League Baseball team to Indianapolis has died after a 10-month battle with cancer. Art Angotti was the founder and chief executive officer of Artistic Media Partners, which operated nearly two dozen radio stations throughout the country. He was 74.
In the 1980s, Angotti attempted to bring an MLB expansion team, to be known as the Indianapolis Arrows, to the city. The team was expecting to play at the Hoosier Dome, though plans for the effort eventually fell through.
However, Angotti continued his love of sports through AMP, which operated the flagship stations for the Indiana University, Purdue University and University of Notre Dame sports radio networks. He was also a consultant for the owner of the Oakland Athletics.
Angotti was inducted into the Indiana Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2008.
Angotti graduated from IU with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1966. A decorated war veteran, Angotti served in the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Army Commendation Medal.
Visitation for Angotti will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and again Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow Monday’s visitation at 11.
