Infosys Celebrates One Year in Indy
India-based Infosys (NYSE: INFY) opened its first Technology and Innovation Hub in Indianapolis a year ago. The information technology company celebrated its first anniversary in Indy Wednesday along with Mayor Joe Hogsett. Rick Cardwell, vice president and head of the Midwest region for Infosys, says the company has already hired 500 people for the $9 million hub, located in the OneAmerica Tower in downtown Indy, on the way to its goal of adding 3,000 jobs by the end of 2023.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman, Cardwell discussed the milestone and what the future looks like moving forward.
"The Infosys story is really a story about the ongoing momentum that we’re already seeing in the state of Indiana in terms of the technology talent that’s being brought to the state. We’ve accomplished a lot," said Cardwell. "Our next milestone is we want to hire an additional 500 people. We want to be able to fill up our spaces here; all five floors will have talent on them. We want to double the amount of clients that we service today."
Cardwell says they are also looking forward to the opening of the company’s $35 million U.S. Education Center, which is currently under construction at the former Indianapolis International Airport terminal. The first phase of the project is expected to be complete in 2020.
State Rep. Karlee Macer (D-Indianapolis) says having Infosys setting up shop on the west side of Indianapolis creates a brighter light for the future of the area in several ways. "To have Infosys landing on the west side of Indianapolis takes what was already going to be great to a whole other level and so we’re excited about the investment that they’re bringing to our community and certainly excited to have them as community partners and neighbors."
