Floyd Memorial Foundation Begins Chapel Campaign
The New Albany-based Floyd Memorial Foundation is kicking off a fundraising effort to build a new chapel at Baptist Health Floyd hospital. The Chapel Capital Campaign aims to raise $600,000 over the next year.
The foundation says the goal is to give hospital visitors, patients and employees access to a chapel in a location in close proximity to the hospital’s main entrance. The existing chapel is outdated, not easily accessible, and offers limited space, according to the foundation.
If funding is secured, the 900-square-foot chapel will be built off the lain lobby in the hospital, close to the emergency department.
The campaign is being chaired by Joe Glover, a member of the foundation’s board of directors and athletic director for Indiana University Southeast. He says a pair of visits to the hospital led to the realization that a new chapel was needed.
"I hadn’t given much thought to the need for a chapel located in the main area of the hospital until I had an experience where a large number of us were praying in the Emergency Department waiting room for someone who was being treated for cardiac arrest," said Glover. "We were standing in a large circle, holding hands, praying amongst other hospital visitors. We can pray anywhere, but if there had been a private chapel close by for our group to pray, reflect and hold on to hope, and privately meet with a chaplain, that would have been ideal.”
Louisville-based LBM Construction Co. will oversee the construction of the chapel, should the project move forward.
