The design includes a 20-foot cube play tower for children, an 18-foot promenade, a new pedestrian bridge, and urban porch swings, among other features.
The play tower is being custom designed by Texas-based KOMPAN and will be only the third of its kind in the country. Myers says the city must offer current and future generations an "attractive and opportunity-filled community."
"We must demonstrate that we understand the changing needs between a young professional looking for their first apartment, a new family searching for a safe place to raise their kids, and a retired couple wanting to downsize and spend their weekends walking around Old Town before meeting friends at Vino Villa,” said Myers.
The mayor says the transformation of Old City Park will impact Greenwood for decades to come. He says it will again become a central cornerstone of the city’s downtown with its connectivity to the Greenwood Amphitheater and Craig Park, as well as the soon-to-be-redeveloped middle school property, Greenwood Public Library and the new Madison Avenue trail.
