The new center is set to open this year after seven years of planning and $8.4 million of funding secured, which is 90% of the total capital investment.
The City of Plymouth, Plymouth Community School Corporation, and Ancilla College will lease the facilities, which will be operated by private business owners Rick and Barb Miller. Exterior signage, a community billboard, pool scoreboard and other special amenities will be made possible by the fundraising and capital campaign.
“The goal is to ultimately create a venue that the community and those who use the facility will be proud of and put to closure 7 years of hard work by a group of committed local leaders,” according to Jerry Chavez, capital campaign member and President/CEO of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation, “It’s amazing to understand that over 17 agencies have collaborated together to fund and support construction of this project.”
The financing plan leveraged over $3 million of funding through New Market Tax Credits and Regional Cities funding. Ground was broken for the 27,000 square foot facility in July 2018, with 25% of construction now complete. The finished building will include a 10-lane pool, two diving boards, three family changing rooms and seating for over 435 spectators. Construction is set to be complete by August 2019.
