The developer of the project says Sport Wayne Inc. has signed a letter of intent to design and open a climbing gym and adventure park at the former General Electric campus.
Known as Rush Rock Gym, the facility will be located on the western edge of the development’s west campus. It will also house Sport Wayne’s headquarters and administrative operations.
Rush Rock Gym will feature 30,000 square feet of climbing space, an Olympic-sized speed climbing wall, an adventure zone for youth, and dedicated space for bouldering, parkour, rappelling and zip lines. Electric Works developer RTM Ventures says the facility will also feature the first deep net soloing wall in the United States, which will allow it to host regional and national climbing competitions and exhibitions.
"Health and wellness are core parts of the community vision for Electric Works, and Sport Wayne’s presence will be important in promoting recreation, fitness, and play on the campus and throughout the region," says Jeff Kingsbury with RTM Ventures. "The facility and its unique setting within Electric Works will also be a regional and national draw for climbers, while complementing other downtown quality of place amenities like the Riverfront."
Developers say, when complete, the facility is expected to be one of the largest climbing gyms in the state.
