Indy Eleven Professional Soccer has selected Greg Stremlaw as chief executive officer. Stremlaw, who most recently lead CBC Sports in Canada, will begin his new role in the coming weeks.

Stremlaw succeeds Jeff Belskus, who announced in October he was stepping down from the team. In his new role, Stremlaw will oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization.

In a news release Monday, Stremlaw said the proposed $550 million Eleven Park development, plans for which were announced last week, was one of the key reasons for accepting the job.

"Eleven Park is a transformational element for Indy Eleven and will grant a permanent home for the world’s game in Indiana," said Stremlaw. "It will be a game changer from a competitive and fan experience perspective because it will allow us to play on natural grass and set our own schedule with more fan-friendly weekend games."

Prior to joining CBC Sports, Stremlaw served as CEO of Curling Canada.
