Saint Joe Launches New Fundraising Campaign
Saint Joseph’s College is taking another step toward reopening its Rensselaer campus. The college, which suspended activities on the campus in 2017 in what was then described as a "dire" financial situation, has launched a fundraising campaign "to cover the expenses of SJC’s journey back to health and vitality." The 128 Core Partners effort seeks to raise nearly $4 million over three years.
The college is looking to alumni to contribute to the effort and says 100 percent of the new Board of Trustees has already committed more than $100,000 per year for three years. Saint Joe says if 128 people commit to three years of support, it will provide time to come up with a viable, comprehensive plan to reopen the campus.
The campaign features tiers of gifts ranging from $500 per year to $250,000 per year. The college says it currently does not have enough revenue to cover all of the campus expenses and, if it cannot raise enough money to cover the revenue shortfall, it will be forced to close the Rensselaer campus within six months.
"Over the past eighteen months, we have accomplished many important goals toward reopening our campus in Rensselaer, including identifying and maintaining a sustainable campus facilities footprint, reaching a restructuring agreement with our lender, and establishing a collaboration in mission with another University," the college said in a Facebook post. "The next step in the rebirth of Saint Joseph’s College, involves investing in our campus to support a successful feasibility study. Our aspirational goal is to expand to Rensselaer as early as 2021-22 with a prominent identity that our alumni can embrace."
