MICHIGAN CITY -

Mishawaka-based Franciscan Health will Thursday hold a blessing and dedication ceremony for the new Franciscan Health Michigan City hospital. The $243 million facility, which has been under construction for more than two years, is slated to open in January.

The new hospital, located at the corner of I-94 and U.S. 421, will have 123 inpatient beds, outpatient services, and a medical office building. It will also have new services, including an OB department operating room suite, an IMPACT center for pre-surgical prep of total joint and spine cases, and a 10-bed observation unit adjacent to the emergency department.

The hospital will replace the existing facility, which has been in operation since the 1920s. The health system says the current building will continue to be used "through innovative community partnerships with other organizations."

Franciscan Health will Saturday host a public open house from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., which will include tours, prize giveaways and health screenings.
