Subscribe NowIndyBaroque Music Inc., the parent organization of the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra and IndyBaroque Chamber Players, has appointed Leela Breithaupt president and chief executive officer. She has served as interim executive director and board president for nearly two years, in addition to performing Baroque flute with the orchestra for eight years and serving as chair of the artistic committee. As interim executive director, she negotiated a contract with Naxos Records to release a series of CDs. Breithaupt is currently working toward her MBA at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
She holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University and a Konzertexamen (Artist Diploma) from the University of the Arts Berlin. As a performing artist of both modern and Baroque flute for more than 20 years, she has performed with ensembles such as New York Baroque, Bourbon Baroque, Great Lakes Baroque, the Berlin Symphony, Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic, and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and has recorded and performed in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. in solo and chamber settings.
Breithaupt founded Les Ordinaires Baroque ensemble, which recently recorded its second CD for Naxos Records. She teaches international Go Baroque masterclasses on Historically Informed Performance at universities across the US and in Europe and serves as Coordinator of the Baroque Artist Competition at the National Flute Association. Since 2014, she has published articles for Flute Talk magazine and serves as a consulting editor. Breithaupt is the recipient of a 2017 Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship from the Arts Council of Indianapolis.
