Ivy Tech Community College has named John Cowles vice chancellor for student success for its Indianapolis campus. He previously served in a similar role for Grand Rapids Community College since 2013. During his time there, he was the lead for Achieving the Dream and Higher Learning Commission Persistence and Completion Academy work. Cowles also previously served as an advisory board member for the Michigan College Access Network since 2017. He has 19 years of experience at Grand Rapids Community College as a tenured faculty member, program director, associate dean and dean. In total, Cowles has 25 years of experience in higher education.

He earned a Ph.D. in Workforce Education, a Master of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Science in Restaurant and Hotel Management from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Also, Kevin Keathley has been appointed dean of the School of Information Technology for its Indianapolis campus. He has been involved in information technology in central Indiana for more than 25 years. From his position as chief information officer at One Call Communication, to serving as vice president of infrastructure and operations at the Federal Home Loan Bank, to director of cloud delivery at Ontario Systems, Keathley has been on the leading edge of technology in the region. His recent focus has been on leading transformational efforts in DevOps, drawing from years of experience in development, networks, cloud computing, and software-defined everything.

Keathley earned a Master of Science in Finance from Walsh College in Troy, Mich. He also has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Walsh College and two degrees from Oakland Community College in Royal Oak, Mich.
