Indiana Wesleyan University has promoted Mike Manning to vice president of academic affairs for the College of Adult and Professional Studies. He most recently served as dean of the School of Service and Leadership since April 2014. In his new role, Manning oversees four academic units: the School of Service and Leadership, the DeVoe School of Business, the School of Educational Leadership and the Division of Liberal Arts.

During his tenure as dean of the School of Service and Leadership, Manning helped to create, develop and implement five new academic programs, two new specializations, and he reimagined start projections for graduate programs. These efforts resulted in increased enrollment in the School of Service and Leadership from just over 900 students in 2014 to 1800-plus students in 2018.

After joining IWU in November 2000 as coordinator of faculty recruitment, Manning moved to positions of increasing experience throughout the years. Prior to becoming dean, Manning held a number of positions, including serving as IWU’s interim chair of the Department of Leadership Studies at the School of Service and Leadership; and the interim associate dean of IWU’s DeVoe School of Business.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Sterling College in 1988 and a Master of Science in Physical Education from Arkansas State University in 1996. In 2009, Manning earned a Master of Arts in Advanced Leadership Studies from Indiana Wesleyan University and received his Doctorate of Education with an emphasis on organizational leadership from IWU in 2010.

He received the President’s Award for Meritorious Service from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2016 and a Lily Grant in 2009 for program effectiveness research. Manning also received the Project Leadership – Mentor of the Year honor for the 2008-09 school year.
