The company, which provides original and aftermarket automotive products, says the closure will result in the layoffs of 83 employees.
In a notice to the state, Federal-Mogul says the decision to close the facility is the result of an ongoing realignment of its North American distribution network. The layoffs are expected to occur over a six-month period beginning in the third quarter of 2018 and ending in the first quarter of 2019.
The closure will affect 73 hourly employees, including temporary workers, and 10 salaried employees. The company says the entire plant will be closed and the layoffs are expected to be permanent. Federal-Mogul did not provide any details on whether it was offering assistance to the affected employees.
Federal-Mogul has locations all over the world, including the U.S., Mexico, China, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, among others. The Indianapolis facility is the company’s only presence in Indiana.
