The Common Council has approved a public-private partnership and funding agreements with Fishers-based Rebar Development on the $24.3 million Levinson mixed-use development.
Plans call for more than 80 studio, one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as commercial space, a rooftop deck and a 337-space parking lot to mostly be used by the public. The city says it will work with the developer to get the planning process underway. The resulting design is slated to go before the council in November and the final approvals could come in January.
Mayor John Ditslear says "sometimes you need to make history as well as preserve it. And in the case of the Levinson, building the first new downtown apartments in 100 years, we can do both – while finally putting to rest the debate about parking in our downtown."
Ditslear was a recent guest on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick discussing the development and the larger plans at play in the city:
The apartments and garage are expected to open in 2020.
