Mark Newman, executive director of the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, has accepted a similar position at the Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations. IPBS is Indiana’s association of public television and radio stations. Newman has been with the IOTD for nearly seven years.

He was the orchestrator for the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay. During his tenure at IOTD, the agency has created several new tourism assets and gained others along the way. Under Newman’s direction visitation to the Hoosier State increased to record levels year after year. He’s also responsible for creating a How-to guide for Indiana Festivals and a 4th grade educational guide.

Newman previously served as vice president of marketing and communications for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. He also served as chief operating officer of the Indiana Sports Corp. where he led bid efforts to secure the USA Track and Field Outdoor National Championships, Big Ten Conference Men’s Basketball Championships and Big Ten Conference Women’s Basketball Championships for Indianapolis. 

Newman also served on the organizing committees of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and World Cup USA 1994.  He is a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Program (Class XXIX), is active in the National Council of State Tourism Directors serving as its research liaison to the US Travel Association and sits on the Boards of the Indiana Restaurant and Lodging Association, Indiana Natural Resources Commission, Indiana Historic Pathways Committee and Lincoln Boyhood Drama Association.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, his master’s degree from the University of Virginia and has completed his coursework and comprehensive exams toward a Ph.D. in policy and evaluation. 

His last day is September 7.
