EVANSVILLE -

Construction is set to begin next week on the largest Regional Cities Initiative project in southwest Indiana. Officials will Monday break ground on the $40 million Post House, a research hub for smart energy technologies in downtown Evansville.

The Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana says the Post House will enhance the quality of place in the region. The organization in May said Evansville-based Vectren Corp. (NYSE: VVC) plans to use the facility as a "living laboratory" to test smart energy products.

The Post House will feature rooftop solar panels, small-scale battery energy storage, various smart appliances and smart home automation features, electric vehicle charging stations, and ultra-efficient heating and cooling systems. It will also include housing, retail and office components.

A timetable for the project's completion was not released.
