The school says it took in $141.6 million in Fiscal 2018, compared to $138.1 million a year ago.
Vice President For Research Robert Bernhard says the funds were received as the university faces a "very competitive environment," which included challenges such as delays on federal grant awards. "Our faculty members successfully sustained and expanded their research programs through innovative ideas, collaborations and partnerships for research that address significant technological and societal challenges," he said. "I congratulate our hardworking researchers and administrative staff for their success in helping Notre Dame continue to advance our research programs as a force for good."
Notre Dame says external research funding has jumped 75 percent over the last decade. Over the last year, the university says nearly 63 percent of the funds came from federal sources, more than 24 percent from foundations and other sponsors and close to 13 percent from industry awards. Grants came from sources in 32 countries.
