Ice Miller LLP has added Christine Hansen as a partner in the firm’s intellectual property group. She has more than 20 years of experience counseling life sciences and chemical companies on patent prosecution, due diligence and freedom-to-operate issues. Hansen works with innovator pharmaceutical companies and handles Orange Book submissions, patent term extensions and other issues at the intersection of patent and FDA law.

In the agriculture industry, she has worked extensively on patent freedom-to-operate issues for genetically modified crops and on the patenting of novel plant genes. Hansen is also experienced in drafting patent licensing agreements and joint research and development agreements, including agreements between universities or governmental entities and a private-sector partner.

Aspects of her chemistry research as an undergraduate at Princeton were published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. As a Fulbright Scholar, Hansen studied chemistry in Germany under the renowned professor Dr. Manfred Reetz.

Her experience as a lawyer counseling European companies and working as in-house patent counsel at a French pharmaceutical company provided her with practical knowledge of international patent laws and working with different cultures.

In 1992, Hansen earned her juris doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and is admitted to practice in Delaware.

The firm has also welcomed Erik Hansen, of counsel, to the business group. He concentrates his practice on investment advisor, broker-dealer and investment company matters (and related FINRA matters), as well as federal and state securities laws. Prior to joining Ice Miller, Erik was counsel at a national company that specialized in real estate development, value investments and health care. As chief compliance officer for the real estate company’s subsidiary broker-dealer, he lead broker-dealer business/capital markets and broker-dealer personnel across all business and compliance units, analyzed legal risk and created strategies to provide risk mitigation and developed and implemented internal control tests to verify employee compliance with the firm's policies and procedures.

In addition, his legal experience includes working at large law firms as an associate in Indianapolis and New York. Erik earned his juris doctor from Boston University School of Law in 2010. He is admitted to practice law in the states of Indiana and New York.
