Owners Seek $3M For Mounds Mall And Property
The family that owns Mounds Mall in Anderson has announced a sale price. Jonathan Cook says his family is seeking $3 million for the shopping center that first opened in 1965 and the surrounding land. Our partners at The Herald-Bulletin report Madison County records show more than $655,000 in back taxes is owed on the 300,000 square-foot mall, with nearly $75,000 in additional tax money coming due in November. Taxes on the 36-acre property, reports the publication, are current.
The building failed to sell in April in a tax certificate sale by the Madison County Commissioners. Mounds Mall has been closed since April when its anchor retailer Carson’s closed following the bankruptcy of its parent company. The Cook family acquired the shopping center in 2009 from a Florida company that purchased it from original facility owners Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group.
