The addition of the former Indiana Fever star, who will serve a four-year term, increases the number of board members to 11.
The appoint follows the passage of House Enrolled Act 1070, which went into effect Sunday and grants the mayor of Indianapolis one additional appointment. It also elevates a non-voting member of the board representing Morgan County to a full-voting member.
"Tamika Catchings’ commitment to excellence throughout her lifetime of achievement will only assist us as we strive to continue the highest quality of customer experience here at the Indianapolis International Airport," said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. "As we continue to raise the Indy airport’s profile internationally, after the recent launch of our nonstop flight to Paris, we are particularly excited by the multicultural experiences Tamika will bring, having played and lived in various places around the world."
Catchings retired from the WNBA in 2016 in a career that included a WNBA Championship, league MVP title, four Olympic gold medals, as well as an NCAA championship at the University of Tennessee. She currently serves as director of player programs and franchise development with Pacers Sports and Entertainment.
"It’s an honor to be asked to serve on the Indianapolis Airport Authority board, working alongside community leaders to care for some of Central Indiana’s greatest assets," Catchings said in a news release. "I look forward to collaborating with the IAA board and staff to celebrate and uplift the award-winning Indianapolis airport, as well as the other IAA facilities throughout the area."
