Subaru of America Inc., which markets and distributes models made by Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. in Lafayette, is reporting the best May sales in the history of the company. The automaker says the month also marked the best May ever for the Outback model, which is made in Tippecanoe County.

In all, Subaru of America is reporting a 7.2 percent sales increase compared to May 2018, which it says makes 78 consecutive months of yearly month-over-month growth. It also marks 51 consecutive months of more than 10,000 Outbacks sold.

Year to date, the company is reporting sales of 263,019 vehicles, which is a 4.1 percent increase over the same period last year.

SIA in Lafayette also produces the Legacy, Impreza and Ascent models. SIA began Ascent production last month. The growth sparked a $140 million investment at the plant along with plans to create up to 200 jobs.
