Legacy Foundation Awards Grants in Northwest Indiana

Nineteen organizations will receive funding from the Merrillville-based Legacy Foundation this spring. The foundation awarded $167,000 in grants through the Transform Lake County program, Lake County Teen Action Group and Sponsorship program.

Transform Lake County grants are designed to strengthen nonprofits and neighborhoods in the county, and grants from LCTAG are picked by high school students and include a component of service. Sponsorship grants are intended for charitable events open to the public in Lake County. 

Transform Lake County grants:

  • $25,000 to Dunes Learning Center for the purchase and installation of an ADA fishing and paddling launch at Veterans Park in Lake Station
  • $25,000 for the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana Mobile Marketplace to deliver nutritious food in identified food deserts
  • $12,500 to Nazareth Home for a Group Home License under residential licensing with the Department of Child and Family Services
  • $15,000 for Neighbors’ Educational Opportunities to bring English as a Second Language, citizenship classes, immigration services and career training to Lake Station residents
  • $5,000 for Planting Possibilities to expand outreach to the local special needs community
  • $7,500 to South Shore Arts for , “Urban Legends”, a two-part series of exhibits
  • $25,000 for The Multi Agency Academic Cooperative Foundation to provide essential training to first responders including Fire Service, EMS, and Law Enforcement Agencies
  • $14,000 for The Salvation Army of Lake County to upgrade its security system at the Hammond/Munster Corps
  • $5,600 for Top 20, Inc. to engage parents in their East Chicago student activities
  • $25,000 for the Whiting Entertainment Center Mascot Hall of Fame

Lake County Teen Action Group and Sponsorship program grants range from $500 to $2,500. Recipients include: ASW Foundation, Inc., Gary Neighborhood Services, Inc., Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana, Highland Education Foundation, Humane Indiana, Mayor’s Organization on Disabilities, St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church, Superhero Training & Supply, Inc., and Woodland Child Development Center.
