DALE -

Huntingburg-based Superior Ag has cut the ribbon on its $20 million feed mill in Spencer County. The cooperative says the facility has the ability to produce 3,000 tons of livestock nutrition weekly, with production scheduled to begin in the middle of June.

Construction on the Dale Feed Mill began in January 2017. Superior Ag says the decision to build the facility was made in order to be compliant with Food Safety Modernization Act regulations. The cost of upgrading its current facilities, the cooperative adds, would have "far exceeded the cost of the new facility."

The feed mill features a new pelleting line and an automated bagging and stacker system which Superior Ag says will help ensure all federal health and safety regulations are met.

"Our feed milling operations are continuously growing due to customer and consumer demand. The new feed mill will promote efficiency, reduce costs and provide local farms with enhanced livestock nutrition," said Barry Day, chief executive officer of Superior Ag. "The new facility will enable us to keep our costs competitive in our ongoing efforts to provide superior value to our member-customers through consistent delivery of high-quality products, innovation and service."

Superior Ag says the new feed mill will allow the cooperative to grow its Livestock Nutrition division. The current feed mill locations in St. Meinrad and Jasper are set to merge operations to the new Dale location.
